To bid farewell to our artistic director Jochen Sandig and our managing director Gabriele Zerweck, our musical guest will turn the marketplace to a dancefloor again: Look forward to a special edition of our »Frei Luft Musik« on September 20 with our special guests Shantel & Bucovina Club!
Our annual trip to picturesque Wolfegg in the Allgäu region has tradition. This year, we will once again spend a weekend here in September. Join us for rousing orchestral sounds with accordion accordion, a matinee with Bach’s cello suites, and heavenly a cappella concert.
The first joint concert: On July 13, the two ensembles VOCES8 and Chanticleer met for a cappella summit meeting at the Ludwigsburg Festival. You can watch the concert on Deutschlandfunk Kultur , recorded in the sold-out Friedenskirche now (once again)!

This week we are ending our 2024 festival season with a big fireworks display: the open air at Seeschloss Monrepos is coming up! In a summery, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting, we will experience refined rhythms, captivating highlights and soulful moments of tranquillity, which will ultimately culminate in a breathtaking fireworks display. So that it’s not so hard to say goodbye, this year we have a festival pilogue in which students from the Film Academy and ADK invite you to take a nocturnal walk in the Salonwald – let us surprise you!
Use our free shuttle bus to get to the concert: On July 15, our bus shuttle will take you from Untertürkheim station (Gate 4) to the station »Rotenberger Weingärtle«. From there, smaller shuttle buses will take you to the next station, before you reach the chapel after a 200 meter walk. There is no parking available at the chapel!
With the «Danzón No. 2«, the festival orchestra under the direction of Alondra de la Parra will captivate the audience at the open-air concert! The video with the »Impossible

In this penultimate week of the festival, we are pulling out all the stops once again: after a final concert in the Ordenssaal with actress Martina Gedeck and star harpist Xavier de Maistre, the VOCES8 artist residency begins this weekend! At »Voces8 Meets Chanticleer« is a summit meeting of a cappella singing of a cappella singing with the US colleagues from Chanticleer in the Friedenkirche. We are also looking forward to the project »VOCES8 Sing Along« on Sunday - starting at 3 pm so as not to clash with the final match of the European Football Championship. On Monday evening, we will celebrate the end of the artist residency with the »VOCES8 Evening Song« and ring in the last week of the festival with an open-air evening at the Grabkapelle Stuttgart in a relaxed, summery atmosphere.
As public viewings are taking place around the market square this Friday and we want to listen to the virtuoso sounds of the four-piece string ensemble »Quelle SURprise« undisturbed, we are moving our »Frei Luft Musik« this Friday, July 5, to the Evangelische Stadtkirche Ludwigsburg, directly on the market square!
The sixth week of the festival is all about dance: we welcome the Akram Khan Company to Ludwigsburg and let ourselves be carried away by the multimedia dance theater retelling of the »Jungle Book«! We won’t be able to sit still for long at the concert, which has been moved to the Stiftskirche Wertheim due to the weather, when David Orlowsky & Friends provide a good mood with chamber music and jazz. Also relocated and due to the EM-Public-Viewings in the Marktplatz-Gastronomie in the Ev. Stadtkirche Ludwigsburg: the Frei Luft Musik with the string ensemble Quelle SURprise.
We will be guests at the Alte Kelter in Bietigheim, where the SIGNUM saxophone quartet will be playing their own arrangements of classical works. And, of course, another musical gem shines in our series of Ordenssaal concerts when Alexandre Kantorow plays romantic rhapsodies, character pieces and sonatas in his piano recital.
The fifth festival week has begun! The Mahler Chamber Orchestra concludes its artist residency with the question «How does home sound?«, we accompany Anastasia Kobekina and the Basel Chamber Orchestra on their trip to Venice, and Asmik Grigorian performs a song recital. Also: the «Johannespassion« in Haigerloch and the premiere of «Die schöne Müllerin«, a co-production with the Stuttgart State Opera!
This week’s guests at the Schlossfestspiele: Violinist Renaud Capuçon with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Pianist Michael Wollny, who takes a »Blick nach Innen« with his art between jazz and classical music. The Minguet Quartett brings together Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C major with the Finnish contemporary composer Kalevi Aho.In addition, children will demonstrate the musical possibilities of minimal music with their own compositions and in the workshops on »In C«, you can dance under the guidance of dancers from the Sasha Waltz & Guests company!

Schlosspark with their own concerts and innovative music formats.
The festival week concludes with the big anniversary »50 Jahre Hip-Hop« in the open air at the Kunstzentrum Karlskaserne.
And, of course, the popular »Frei Luft Musik« will be back again this week, this time Kids of Adelaide will be playing indie, folk and rock sounds.
We are offering free workshops with dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests on June 21, 22, and 23 in Ludwigsburg for all dance enthusiasts aged 12 and over. Over the course of three hours, you will gain basic insights into the choreography «In C« and are invited to get to know and try out the concept and the various movements in a playful way. The dancer and dance teacher Janna Kleinknecht gives an insight into the workshop offer in the video.

The Supervisory Board of the Ludwigsburg Schlossfestspiele elected a new artistic director at its meeting on March 6. In future Lucas Reuter will take over responsibility. On March 26. the participants of the »Spoken Moments Poetry« workshop met in Ludwigsburg and spent six intensive and creative hours at Palais Grävenitz under the motto »Type. Man. The founder of contemporary »African Dance« has been committed for decades to the deepening and spreading of African Dance. Since the 1960s, Germaine Acogny has been realizing and manifesting her vision, enriching the african - and eventually the international - dance world as a dancer, teacher and mentor. The Biennale Danza Festival now honours her life's work with the Golden Lion. In anticipation of this year's »Sacre« project, we congratulate her!
With »I can't breathe«, the dancer touched not only the visitors of the Ludwigsburg Festival. His renewed performance at the Romaeuropa Festival in September also convinced the jury of the Italian Danza&Danza Awards. We congratulate Edivaldo Ernesto for the award as best dancer 2020!
