Sebastian Klinger

Sebastian Klinger grew up in the idyll of Gran Canaria. He received his first cello lessons early on and became a young student at the Mozarteum at 13. A path he continued with studies in Salzburg, Vienna and Berlin. His victory at the German Music Competition 2001 and his appearance in the “Rising Star Series” were the starting signal for his solo career. Soon to be followed by debuts at important German festivals - including Ludwigsburg - and essential music centres in Europe and the United States. Now internationally known as a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed with Orchestras like the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra in Rome and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, as well as numerous chamber music partners, including Valéry Afanassiev, Kit Armstrong, Vilde Frang, Janine Jansen, Lang Lang or Yo-Yo Ma. After eleven years as a solo cellist in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, he was appointed professor at the Hamburg University of Music in 2015. He returned to his position in the orchestra in the 2022/23 season. His complete recording of the Bach Cello Suites, which he will perform in the Alte Pfarr, was awarded a “Diapason d’Or”.
